The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has assured that Ghana currently has a stable electricity supply.
He said the country, which at the beginning of the year faced intermittent power outages, has enjoyed four straight months of stable power.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Friday, July 18, the Minister disclosed that Ghana has also resumed exporting electricity to neighbouring countries.
“ECG has constituted a four-member team to attend to outages. I am happy to note, Mr Speaker, that after four continuous months of unstable supply, we have now stabilised the system and are exporting power to all our neighbouring countries,” Mr Jinapor said.
He further reported that additional gas supply has been secured from Nigeria, with ENI and the OCTP fields increasing production.
“Additional gas supply from Nigeria has been secured. The ENI plant and OCTP fields have increased output by about 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), while Jubilee has also added about 20 MMSCFD,” the Minister revealed.
He added: “We’ve secured funding, and with that, we hope to ensure a consistent supply of fuel, particularly liquid fuels. We are also working with ECG to make sure they adhere to the cash waterfall mechanism. They are currently operating a single treasury account with GCB Bank, where all these funds are accounted for.”
