Every region will get quota to send young people to serve in security services, we're waiting for financial clearance – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that plans are well underway to launch a region-based recruitment drive into the country’s security services, pending final approval from the Ministry of Finance.

The initiative, according to the President, is part of his government's broader strategy to decentralise the enlistment process and ensure a fairer and more inclusive opportunity for young people across all regions to join the nation's security forces.

“We also promised to decentralise recruitment into the security services. We’re waiting for financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance, and when we get it, every region is going to have a quota to send our young people to serve in the security services,” he stated.

Speaking at a durbar in the Western North Region on Tuesday, July 15, during his ongoing 'Thank You Tour', President Mahama emphasised that the policy will create a more balanced representation within the police, military, fire, immigration, and prison services.

He reiterated that regional equity in recruitment is vital to national cohesion and will help address the growing demand for job opportunities among Ghana’s youth.

The upcoming recruitment exercise is expected to offer thousands of young people the chance to serve their country while easing the burden on the over-centralised application process that has long been criticised for being overly competitive and unevenly accessible.
