Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Ghana and India to deepen their bilateral relationship as a strategic platform to spur not just national growth, but sustainable development across the African continent.
Speaking during a historic address to Ghana’s Parliament as part of his official visit on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi identified trade, technology, and climate sustainability as critical pillars for future collaboration between the two nations.
“This is a pivotal moment for India-Ghana relations,” the Prime Minister said, emphasising the mutual benefits of closer cooperation.
He underlined that the time had come for India and Ghana to move beyond traditional diplomacy and embrace transformative partnerships that generate tangible impact, particularly for young people and future generations.
“Our partnership can become a model for South-South collaboration, driving innovation and sustainable growth across Africa,” he stated.
Modi praised the growing convergence between the two countries in areas such as digital innovation, renewable energy, infrastructure, and health. He said India was committed to sharing its technological advancements and capacity-building expertise to support Ghana’s development goals.
He also pledged India’s continued backing for climate-resilient initiatives, stating that both countries have a duty to lead the global charge for environmental sustainability from the Global South.
During his visit, several memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed between Indian and Ghanaian officials, covering a range of sectors including education, energy, agriculture, and digital governance.
Prime Minister Modi's address marked the first by an Indian leader in Ghana’s Parliament in 30 years and symbolised what both nations are calling a "new era of partnership" rooted in mutual respect, shared development priorities, and global solidarity.
