A tragic road accident on the Winneba-Apam highway has claimed the lives of four people, including three schoolchildren and a taxi driver, following a head-on collision near Natwibuw in the Central Region.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Monday when the victims, students from Uncle Rich and St. Paul basic schools, were on their way home from school. They were traveling in a taxi with registration number CR 748-20 when a Toyota Rav4, bearing the number GN 5507-18, reportedly attempted a dangerous overtaking maneuver and crashed into the oncoming taxi.
Eyewitnesses say the impact was devastating. The taxi driver died instantly, and emergency crews struggled to retrieve his body from the mangled vehicle. One student was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other students who sustained critical injuries were rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba but sadly passed away while receiving treatment, raising the death toll to four.
Two additional students involved in the crash are currently being treated at the same hospital. Their conditions are reported to be stable.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which has left the local community reeling in grief.
