The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man identified as Christopher Saigoe for unlawful possession of substances believed to be narcotic drugs during a targeted operation at Nkurakan in the Eastern Region.
According to a police statement, the arrest was made on Monday, 17th June 2025, when officers intercepted a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number AS 1933-21, which was being driven by the suspect.
During a search of the vehicle, police discovered five sacks of maize. Upon closer inspection, the maize sacks were found to contain a total of seventy-eight (78) oval-shaped, sellotaped parcels suspected to be Indian hemp.
The discovery was described by police officials as a “concealment tactic aimed at evading detection,” and the operation is believed to be part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating across Ghana’s transport corridors.
Christopher Saigoe is currently in police custody and is assisting with investigations. Authorities have indicated that he will be arraigned before court once preliminary investigations are completed.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to fighting drug-related crimes and called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
