SUN, 15 JUN 2025

The Municipal Chief Imam of Krachi West, the Chief and Elders of the Kete Community, respected youth, distinguished members of the media,

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu.

Ladies and Gentlemen, good afternoon. We sincerely thank you for honoring our invitation to this important press conference. We have called you here today regarding a matter of serious concern the unlawful attempt to sell the Kete Eid Prayer Ground, a sacred site we have just used to observe the Eid-ul-Adha prayers, one of the most significant events in the Islamic faith.

This parcel of land has served as the official Eid prayer ground for the Kete Muslim community since our lawful resettlement here, following the submergence of our original lands under the Volta Lake due to the construction of the Akosombo Dam in 1961. The Kete Eid Prayer Ground was designated for that purpose by our forefathers as part of the resettlement arrangements.

It has been used for decades for religious gatherings and symbolizes our spiritual heritage, unity, and community identity.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Land disputes have been a major cause of conflict and instability across many parts of Ghana.

For decades, Kete-Krachi has been blessed with peace and communal harmony. However, this recent, unfortunate development where some unscrupulous individuals are attempting to sell our sacred Eid ground poses a serious threat to that peace.

The Kete Muslim community firmly asserts our rightful ownership of this land, located near the Kete Senior High Technical School (KRASTEC),Adjacent the Kete SDA School.

We wish to make it abundantly clear, any attempt to encroach upon, develop, or claim ownership of this historic Eid Prayer Ground will be met with firm resistance.

We caution all individuals and groups involved in this illegal sale or encroachment to desist immediately.

We are fully prepared to take all necessary legal and community based actions to safeguard our heritage.

Any unauthorized activity on this land will be treated as trespassing and dealt with accordingly.

Let it be known that this land is not for sale. It is not abandoned.

It is a sacred ground that has served generations of Muslims in Kete-Krachi and shall remain so for generations to come.

Furthermore, we remind the public and all stakeholders that Kete is a resettlement community under Executive Instrument (E.I.) 98, enacted to facilitate the lawful resettlement of our people after the Akosombo Dam project.

The land allocated for resettlement was designated specifically for the sustenance and development of the Kete people not for sale or commercial exploitation.

We therefore urge traditional authorities, government institutions, opinion leaders, and the media to support us in preserving what rightly belongs to the community.

This is not just a fight for land it is a fight to protect our identity, our religion, and our peace.

In conclusion, the Kete Muslim Youth Association reiterates that the Eid Prayer Ground is a non negotiable community asset. We will defend it peacefully but firmly with every legal and moral means available to us. We call on all well meaning stakeholders to stand with us and uphold justice.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Wa Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu.
