IGP promotes police officer for bravery during Aboso fire outbreak

Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Police Headquarters has been promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, for his bravery and efforts to save lives during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.

The promotion follows Inspector Atubra’s actions during the fire outbreak on Wednesday, August 26, at the Aboso Main Lorry Station, where several shops were engulfed in flames, causing extensive damage to property.

Inspector Atubra was reportedly the first police officer to arrive at the scene. Upon his arrival, he immediately moved into the affected area to assist people who were trapped as the fire rapidly spread.

He helped evacuate people from the danger zone and directed them to safer areas despite the risks associated with the raging fire.

His prompt intervention is credited with helping to prevent further loss of life, as he prioritised the rescue and evacuation of people caught in the affected area.

Witnesses at the scene reportedly praised the officer for his courage, quick response and commitment to protecting lives during the emergency.

Following the incident, a recommendation was made for his promotion in recognition of his exemplary conduct and dedication to duty.

The IGP subsequently approved the recommendation and elevated Inspector Atubra to the rank of Chief Inspector.

The Aboso Main Lorry Station fire destroyed several shops and resulted in significant damage to property, although Inspector Atubra’s intervention helped avert a potentially greater loss of life.
