Interpol has officially issued a Red Notice for Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, marking him as a wanted person on its global database.

The move comes after Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor declared him wanted for failing to appear for an interrogation scheduled on June 2.

Authorities say Ofori-Atta is at the center of several high-profile investigations involving suspected corruption and abuse of office. The Special Prosecutor has initiated extradition procedures aimed at bringing him back to Ghana to face questioning.

The investigations span multiple major national projects and financial arrangements, including:

Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance: Scrutiny over contracts between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Electricity Sector Contracts: The termination of a deal between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).

National Cathedral Project: Concerns about procurement processes and financial management tied to the construction of the controversial National Cathedral.

Ambulance Procurement: Allegations surrounding a contract awarded by the Ministry of Health to Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for the supply and maintenance of 307 ambulances.

GRA Tax P-Fund: Questions over how funds from the GRA’s Tax P-Fund Account were managed and disbursed.

The sole charge listed against Ofori-Atta on Interpol’s platform is “using public office for profit.” Ghanaian authorities say his failure to comply with summons has left them with no option but to pursue international enforcement mechanisms.
