The Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the renaming of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho to the John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences.
He made this announcement during the inauguration of the university’s newly constituted Governing Council at the Ministry earlier today.
The renaming is in honour of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, in recognition of his pivotal role in establishing the university and his steadfast dedication to advancing health and education in Ghana.
Chairman of the Council, Professor Kodzo Gavua, welcomed the decision and reaffirmed the university’s dedication to academic excellence and its role in national development.
The John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences remains committed to training highly skilled health professionals for Ghana and the wider region.
It will be recalled that on 7th February 2011, during his presidency, Professor John Evans Atta Mills cut the sod for the commencement of the university’s construction.
Established in 2011 and officially operational since 2012, UHAS is a public university in Ghana focused on health education, research, and community service. It holds the distinction of being the first public university in the Volta Region and the only state institution in Ghana solely dedicated to the training of healthcare professionals.
The university operates across two campuses: Ho and Hohoe.
