The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, affectionately known as Nana B, has challenged the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, to publicly explain the source of the dollar notes he gifted to self-styled evangelist Agradaa.
According to Nana B, the inability of Sammy Gyamfi to justify the source of the dollars seen in a widely circulated video makes the money suspicious and potentially illegal.
Addressing a press conference organized by the opposition party on Tuesday, May 13, Nana B claimed that Sammy Gyamfi is yet to receive his salary since assuming office at the GoldBod.
“We say, without fear of contradiction, that in the absence of Mr. Sammy Gyamfi providing evidence of the source of funding of the thousands of United States dollars found in his car, seen in the video widely circulated on social media, these funds are proceeds of unlawful or criminal enterprise, by Section One of the Anti-Money Laundering Act,” he said.
Nana B insists the act breaches Ghana’s Anti-Money Laundering Act and undermines President John Mahama’s recently launched code of conduct for appointees.
“The code of conduct will be useless if the President is unable to act on this matter,” he stated.
Sammy Gyamfi has faced widespread criticism after a video surfaced showing him gifting an undisclosed amount of dollar notes to Nana Agradaa from his luxury vehicle.
Despite offering an apology, several groups — including the Minority Caucus and anti-corruption campaigners — have demanded his suspension by the President.
