Dollar gift saga: Mahama’s code of conduct will be useless if he doesn’t punish Sammy Gyamfi — Nana B

The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take disciplinary action against the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, over his recent dollar gift to self-styled evangelist, Agradaa.

Sammy Gyamfi has faced widespread criticism after a video surfaced showing him gifting an undisclosed amount of dollar notes Agradaa from his luxury vehicle.

Despite offering an apology, several groups — including the Minority Caucus and anti-corruption campaigners — have demanded his suspension by the President.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, May 13, the NPP described the act as a breach of the Anti-Money Laundering Act and a direct affront to the code of conduct recently launched by President Mahama for his appointees.

According to Nana B, failure by the President to act would render the new ethical framework meaningless.

“The code of conduct will be useless if the President is unable to act on this matter,” he said.

He also accused the GoldBod CEO of double standards, referencing his past criticisms of others.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the irony of the present situation is that not only was Sammy Gyamfi a loud critic of Cecilia Dapaah some months ago, but he was equally critical of Chief Justice Torkonoo just a few weeks ago because the Judicial Service paid for tickets in dollars — although this was in line with their travel policy and required under such circumstances,” Nana B stated.

He further insisted that the money seen in the video could be linked to criminal activity if its source is not properly explained.

“We say, without fear of contradiction, that in the absence of Mr. Sammy Gyamfi providing evidence of the source of funding of the thousands of United States dollars found in his car, seen in the video widely circulated on social media, these funds are proceeds of unlawful or criminal enterprise, by Section One of the Anti-Money Laundering Act,” he stated.
