Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has asserted that the controversy surrounding the dollar gift from Acting GoldBod CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, to self-styled evangelist Nana Agradaa is being taken out of context.

According to him, the claim that Gyamfi flaunted the money publicly is misleading, as the cash was counted inside his car — a space he described as private.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based TV3 on Monday, May 12, Kpebu urged the public to exercise restraint in analyzing the matter.

“I think we should start the analysis from the point where he entered the car. He didn’t stand publicly to count the money. He entered the car and counted. So we really have to be careful how we are analyzing it.

“Look at the video. He didn’t stand openly and start counting. He entered the car. The car is his private place. That car is not a public place — within the car is his private space,” Kpebu explained.

This follows a viral video that captured Sammy Gyamfi handing an undisclosed amount of money to the former fetish priestess turned evangelist.

The video sparked widespread backlash — including members of his own party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), where he serves as National Communications Officer.

The criticism compelled Gyamfi to issue an unqualified apology on Sunday, May 11, describing the gesture as “unfortunate” and “regrettable.”

What is all this nonsense about? $800 dash or gift? My classmate who has just returned from the US gifted me $1200 to be given to my mom for the care my mom gave him some years back. If we are serious about the $800 gift then we must be concerned about the monies found in Cecilia Dapaah's house..... Do you know the amount of monies Mr Ibrahim Mahama spent on people in need? This nonsense must stop 🛑

Do you support the GH¢1 fuel levy imposed by government to address the electricity challenges?
