NIA Governing Board inaugurated to drive identity services and digital access

Board for the National Identification Authority (NIA) has been inaugurated with a charge to deepen oversight, build public trust, and fast-track the delivery of secure and inclusive identity services.

The ceremony, held on Thursday, May 8, was presided over by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.

A press statement issued by the Authority on May 9 noted that the Minister commended the recent achievements of the NIA under the leadership of Acting Executive Secretary Wisdom Kwaku Deku. These include the decentralization of registration services, the introduction of an online booking system, and the strategic expansion of premium centres — all contributing to Ghana’s digital transformation drive.

In his acceptance speech, newly appointed Board Chairman, Mr. Moses Afetsi Positive, pledged to lead with integrity and collaboration.

He emphasized that the Ghana Card is not merely a technical tool, but a vital enabler of access, empowerment, and national unity.

The new board is expected to provide strategic direction for the Authority, with the goal of achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 16.9 — legal identity for all.

Members of the new Governing Board include Dr. Gifty Seiwaa Nyarkoo, Mr. Eric Coffie, Wisdom Kwaku Deku, Kwesi Afreh Biney, Philip Peter Andoh, Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, Mrs. Rosemary Parker, and Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu.
