Former Managing Director for the State Transport Corporation, Nana Akomeah, has stated that the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) thank you tour was at some point turned into a popularity contest.
Following the party's humiliating defeat in the 2024 polls, the NPP initiated the thank you tour to unite its base across the country.
However, the tour was marred by controversies as supporters of major party stalwarts clashed.
Speaking on the Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM's afternoon political show Dwabrem hosted by Prince Nii Ardey (Dr Cash), Nana Akomeah noted that these clashes deviated from the tour's purpose.
He emphasised that the show of popularity among some party stalwarts nearly derailed the tour.
Nana Akomeah called on all party members to ensure the tour yields its intended purpose, cautioning against turning it into a popularity contest.
He stressed the need for unity and cooperation within the party to achieve its goals. By focusing on the tour's original purpose, Nana Akomeah believes the NPP can move forward and rebuild its base.
