The United Nations Peace Ambassador to Ghana, Bishop Dr. Sam Owusu, has emphasized that Africa’s development and prosperity are deeply rooted in peace, orderliness, and decisive leadership.

Speaking to the media during the launch of the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee in Accra on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, Dr. Sam Owusu lamented that despite Africa being richly endowed with natural resources, the continent has yet to achieve the kind of economic transformation it deserves.

“Take a look at the abundance of rich natural mineral resources deposited in the continent by the Creator, and yet there’s nothing substantial to show for. Africa should be much industrialized than what we see,” he said.

He pointed out that the lack of impactful leadership continues to hinder Africa’s ability to translate its wealth into meaningful development. “Apart from that, African leaders must begin to exhibit decisive leadership which is extremely critical in ensuring peace and food security in the midst of the global challenges that confront us,” he added.

As the Country Director of the International Association of World Peace Advocates (Ghana), Bishop Dr. Owusu warned against dictatorial governance, urging African leaders to instead uphold democratic values, peace, and inclusiveness in their administration.

“There’s no way our dear continent can progress if our leaders don’t protect the peace and orderliness in their countries. It is only within the confines of peace, orderliness, and decisive leadership that Africa can experience the massive growth we all yearn for,” he stressed.

Ambassador Bishop Dr. Sam Owusu, who also serves as the Founder and General Overseer of Pottersville Church in Accra, brings over two decades of pastoral and peace advocacy experience to his call for transformative leadership across the African continent.
