Former Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on President John Dramani Mahama to rein in his security operatives.
His comment comes after operatives of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) stormed his residence on Wednesday, April 9, in an attempt to arrest him.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour, who has been making allegations involving two suspected cocaine-laden flights that landed in Ghana last March, was nearly picked up.
The attempted arrest was thwarted after supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), members of the Minority Caucus, and the media arrived at the scene.
Reacting to the development on Thursday, April 10, after visiting the MP, the 2024 NPP flagbearer advised against using state institutions to target political opponents.
“I wish to reiterate my earlier submission to the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to immediately rein in his security operatives.
“State institutions must not be reduced to political tools used to harass and intimidate opponents. Ghanaians will not accept this descent into lawlessness and fear. Our democracy is hinged on due process and the rule of law,” wrote the former presidential candidate.
