A group of unidentified gunmen reportedly stormed the residence of John Peter Amewu, former Member of Parliament for Hohoe, on Wednesday, March 5.

According to Amewu, one of the intruders, who claimed to be a bailiff, stated that they were acting on “orders from above.”

The armed men allegedly argued that Amewu’s election as MP in 2020 was not legitimate.

Amewu was not at home when the incident occurred, and authorities have yet to provide further details regarding the attack.

During the confrontation, the gunmen fired warning shots, leading to a tense standoff with some of Amewu's supporters.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM with Selorm Adonoo, Amewu recounted the incident:

“They said they were there to serve me a notice because I was not duly elected in 2020, hence their decision to serve me. And that the C.I was not constitutional.”

Expressing concern over the attack, he questioned the state of Ghana’s democracy and confirmed that his supporters in Hohoe had reported the matter to the police.

Despite the incident, Amewu has refused police protection.
