Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, paid a working visit to R & B Farms at Gomoa Nsuem in the Gomoa Central District on Monday to familiarize herself with the farm’s operations.
Hon. Emelia Arthur expressed satisfaction with the company's efforts in producing quality fish for consumption and its role in creating employment opportunities to help reduce unemployment.
"I have attested to the fact that R & B Farms is an integrated farm, and they are serious about feeding the nation with nutritional value of fishes and also improving the local economy. It is a fact that R & B Farms is the largest inland fish farm in the country, and the government will support management to achieve its aims.
The farm is already in partnership with the government, and my ministry, in consultation with His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, will review the existing contract and make it better to make lives meaningful for Ghanaians. Through these farms, more people could be employed to be self-sufficient and cater for their families," she stated.
The minister noted that she had visited other aquaculture farms in the Volta, Oti, and Western Regions to assess ways to expand the sector and create more jobs. She emphasized that R & B Farms, as a wholly Ghanaian-owned company, would receive the necessary support to enhance food security and improve living standards, not only in Gomoa Central but across the country.
Director of Operations for R & B Farms, Mr. Ben Turkson, in his welcome address, highlighted that the farm was established five years ago to boost nutritional value and create job opportunities for over 10 million unemployed youth across all 16 regions.
Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng, praised the farm’s management for their efforts, acknowledging its position as the largest inland aquaculture farm in the country and its potential to provide jobs for the youth in the constituency.
"Let me assure Gomoa Central constituents that more jobs would be created to reduce economic-related hardships.
I must commend the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, for the visit and hope that her outfit will support R & B Farms to achieve its aims and objectives," he stated.
