President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) as the Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs, signaling a renewed commitment to engaging Ghanaians abroad in the country’s development.
Born on January 13, 1978, in Winneba, KOD’s background spans media, fashion, and cultural advocacy. He received his early education in Winneba and Adukrom’s Nifa Secondary School before furthering his studies at the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
Coming from a family deeply involved in public service—his father, James Aidoo, served as a Deputy Director of Ghana Prisons, while his mother, Margaret Aidoo, was a founding member of the 31st December Women’s Movement—KOD developed a strong sense of patriotism and civic responsibility.
His career began as a production assistant at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, later transitioning to Radio Gold before moving to the United Kingdom, where he gained experience working with top fashion brands like Ted Baker and Paul Smith.
Upon returning to Ghana, KOD became a well-known media personality, holding key roles at EIB Network’s LIVE FM and currently hosting the Starr Drive on Starr FM in Accra. Beyond media, he is a fashion entrepreneur and cultural ambassador, known for bridging the gap between Ghana and its diaspora.
In his new role, KOD will focus on strengthening ties between Ghana and its global diaspora, promoting investment opportunities, and fostering cultural and economic collaboration. His deep understanding of both local and international landscapes positions him as a key figure in leveraging the skills, resources, and networks of Ghanaians abroad.
Married to renowned fashion designer Ophelia Crossland, KOD is also a father of two daughters. His appointment reflects President Mahama’s strategic vision to harness the diaspora’s potential for national development.
