The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has hit out at the Special Prosecutor for labelling former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a fugitive.
Speaking to Starr News, the Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah accused the Special Prosecutor of abuse of office and demanded that the rights of Ken Ofori-Atta be respected.
“The John Mahama administration is in charge of the country. As for the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, I’m not sure if he is still in office, but he seems unconcerned about some of the issues happening. Ultimately, the responsibility lies with the John Mahama administration. It is their duty to ensure that there is law and order in our country. He inherited a peaceful country, one governed by law. This issue must be pursued and addressed.
“The Special Prosecutor’s statement was an anomaly and inconsistent with the law. Ken Ofori-Atta is not a fugitive. He is available to answer any questions, though he is currently out of the country with notice given to the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, for medical attention. We must respect his human rights and stop the abuse of office,” Richard Ahiagbah said.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng is investigating Ken Ofori-Atta as a suspect in four different cases.
At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, the Special Prosecutor noted that Ken Ofori-Atta is a suspect in high-profile corruption investigations, including cases related to the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), and two others.
