The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has admonished Felix Kwakye Ofosu and Shamima Muslim to champion media-friendly policies in President John Dramani Mahama’s government.
In a press release congratulating the two for their appointments in the ruling government, PRINPAG appealed for policies that will address the many challenges confronting the media in the country and ensure journalists work in a safe space.
“The National Executives and the entire membership of the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) extend their heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu on his appointment as the Minister of State responsible for Goverment Communications and to Shamima Muslim on her appointment as the Deputy Government Spokesperson.
“We urge Hon. Kwakye Ofosu and Madam Shamima to champion media-friendly policies that will create an environment where journalists feel safe and empowered to carry out their work without fear or intimidation. We further encourage them to welcome constructive criticism and uphold the principles of press freedom, which are crucial in strengthening our democracy,” PRINPAG said in its release.
PRINPAG further called on the government to ensure that its communication team remains accessible to journalists, fosters a culture of responsiveness, and works collaboratively to address challenges facing the media industry.
“We hope to see initiatives that will support capacity building for journalists, enhance access to information, and create opportunities for media practitioners to thrive in a free and fair environment,” the PRINPAG release added.
