Four Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have undergone a day’s training on resource mobilization under the Mutual Capacity Strengthening, Power of Voices and Fair for All Project.
Livelihood and Environment Ghana (LEG), the Centre for Public Interest Law (CEPIL), Women in Law and Development (WILDAF) and Friends of the Nation participated in the program which was on the theme: “Developing fair for all members skills in resource mobilization for improved advocacy and sustainable organization.”
LEG, a Sunyani-based not-for-profit and non-governmental human rights and environmental organization, organized the training with funding support from Oxfam Novib.
The Resource person for the programme, Mrs. Aba Oppong, who is the Executive Director of Rights and Responsible Initiatives Ghana, encouraged the participants to embrace “life-long learning” ask questions when necessary and keep themselves abreast of relevant laws pertaining to their line of work.
She also asked them to be disciplined and committed to their work and make conscious efforts to understand corporate values and apply themselves to them adding that “you as a worker should also create a niche yourself by making significant contributions to the work.”
Madam Aba Oppong also encouraged the participants to develop good working relations with other colleagues, ensure mutual respect among them and cross-check information before acting on them.
“Every worker in a CSO should have good communication skills and be able to relate well with all manner of persons,” she also added.
Speaking with the media after the programme, the Executive Director of LEG, Richard Adjei Poku said: “resource mobilization is a big challenge to many non-governmental organizations, especially rural and community-based groups".
The issues are many at times because of capacity and linkages. Therefore, it is a great opportunity for the three colleague organizations and LEG to have been sponsored by Oxfam Novib to undergo a very useful training exercise, he added.
