Disability Fund: Beneficiaries urged to make good use working tools 

The Municipal Coordinating Director of the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly, Mr John Jawani Dramani, has urged beneficiaries of the Disability Fund to make productive use of the items received from the District Assemblies Common Fund.

Among the 30 beneficiaries, 22 received essential working tools such as chest freezers, sewing machines, industrial sewing machines, gas cylinders, popcorn machines, hair products, cooking oil, laptops, and soap-making materials, while 8 received cash donations.

Speaking to Persons living with Disabilities in the Ayawaso North Municipality during a donation ceremony on Wednesday, the MCD said the objective of the fund was to empower them economically and improve their livelihoods.

He hoped that the working tools and equipment presented would be judiciously used for the right purpose so that beneficiaries would become financially independent.

“This will assist them to look after their households, contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of their communities and consequently become fully integrated into mainstream development,” he added.

He assured that 3% of the Common Fund would be allocated to address various needs of persons with disabilities (PWDs), including awareness creation, health, education, and establishing businesses of their choice.

Mr Dramani indicated that members of the disability committee would monitor how the items are being utilised by the beneficiaries.

“We want the objectives of the disability fund to be realised, hence, to visit the beneficiaries and ascertain how they use the items. We always admonish them not to sell the items but to use them for their intended purpose,” he stated.

Beneficiaries commended the government for its consistency in disbursing the disability fund, saying the fund has supported members to make livelihoods for themselves and their families and promised to use the items for the intended purpose.
