2024 post-election results: No one involved in hooliganism should go free — Boakye Agyarko charges security service

Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has called on law enforcement agencies to ensure those involved in post-election violence face the full force of the law, warning that unchecked hooliganism undermines Ghana's democracy.

This comes on the heels of recent violent acts perpetrated by some youths, reported to be supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The supporters, following the re-election of President John Dramani Mahama, have been engaging in various acts of vandalism, destroying State and private properties, burning objects as they forward their demands to the government, storming State and private institutions in attempt to take over and stomping into mining sites to make claims among other inappropriate activities.

Recently, an incident involving some illegal miners believed to be affiliated with the ruling party and soldiers guarding AngloGold Ashanti resulted in a shooting at Obuasi causing the death of about eight persons and leaving several others seriously injured.

Addressing these issues in an interview on Peace FM's Kokrokoo morning show, Hon. Boakye Agyarko called on the perpetrators to desist from such unlawful acts.

He also advised the political leaders to quit inciting people to violence and most importantly appealed to the law enforcement agencies to crack the whip on any person who causes mayhem in the nation.

"When the Police and soldiers arrest someone involved in violence, the person shouldn't go scot free. The person must be made to face the full rigors of the law. I am not calling for instant justice but this country is governed by laws", he said.
