A Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, NDC Party Elder, and aspirant for the Municipal Chief Executive position in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region, Mr. Atugya, has endorsed the 24-Hour Economy Policy as a transformative solution to Ghana’s unemployment crisis.
Describing the policy as a "game changer," Mr. Atugya emphasized its potential to revitalize all sectors of the Ghanaian economy, particularly the manufacturing industry, which could absorb a significant portion of the country’s unemployed youth. He highlighted the dire unemployment situation in Bolgatanga and the Upper East Region, attributing it to the lack of skills training programs, inadequate financial support for small businesses, and other systemic challenges.
He commended former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for championing policies aimed at addressing Ghana’s pressing challenges, describing the "Resetting Agenda" as a crucial pathway to national development. Drawing comparisons with developed countries like the UK, Mr. Atugya noted that their focus on apprenticeship programs and partnerships with industries equips young people with essential skills and job market experience.
Criticizing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for alleged favoritism and job-selling practices, Mr. Atugya expressed confidence that the NDC under Mahama’s leadership would adopt a more inclusive and merit-based approach to youth employment. He reiterated his belief that the NDC, as a party prioritizing the welfare of its people, would fulfill its promises to restore Ghana’s economy and provide meaningful opportunities for the youth.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Atugya urged the youth to remain steadfast, cooperative, and peaceful in their support for the NDC. He acknowledged instances of unrest, such as the burning of party offices in some constituencies after the 2024 general elections, and called on supporters to trust the leadership to deliver on their commitments.
