In a landmark initiative to connect academia and industry, the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Ghana Chapter has inaugurated a Student Chapter at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in Wa.

The launch ceremony, attended by students, faculty, and industry leaders, celebrated the potential of this collaboration to advance the field of Facility Management in Ghana.

Facility Management: A Crucial Profession

Speaking at the event, the President of IFMA Ghana, Mr. Sampson Opare-Agyemang, emphasized the significance of Facility Management in modern society. “With today’s launch, we are one step closer to building a thriving community of future professionals here in Wa. Facility Management plays a crucial role in optimizing the performance and functionality of buildings, spaces, and infrastructure. It’s about ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of spaces where people live, work, and interact,” he explained.

Mr. Opare-Agyemang also highlighted the profession’s increasing relevance in addressing global challenges. “From sustainability and safety to enhancing well-being, Facility Management is central to the success of organizations and communities. This Student Chapter offers a unique opportunity to bring Facility Management to the forefront of the university experience, equipping students with the resources, knowledge, and network to excel in the field.”

Prof. Elvis Attakora Amaniapong, Patron of the new Student Chapter, praised the initiative’s potential to shape the professional paths of students. “This Student Chapter is more than an academic milestone—it’s a gateway to real-world opportunities. Facility Management is a dynamic profession that requires innovation, resilience, and a commitment to excellence. Through this platform, students will not only gain industry insights but also develop leadership skills that will set them apart,” he stated.
