
The National Peace Council (NPC) has described as unacceptable the deaths of seven Ghanaians in the clash between alleged illegal miners and military men in Obuasi.

In a press release, the National Peace Council called for calm after Saturday’s violent clash and urged the security services to step up investigations into the clash.
“The National Peace Council (NPC) has learnt with regret the violent clash at the northern section of the AngloGold Ashanti Company's Obuasi mines in the late hours of January 18, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of seven persons and injury of others and condemns it.
“The death of seven Ghanaians in this tragic clash is regrettable and unacceptable. The Council condoles with the bereaved families and the entire Obuasi community for such great lost. Besides condoling with the bereaved families, the Council calls for calm and urges the security services to expedite action on investigations into this matter,” parts of the release from the Council said.
Meanwhile, the National Peace Council has admonished the media to be circumspect in their reportage and help in facilitating an amicable resolution of the situation.
In its release, the Council assured that it is committed to working with stakeholders to act peacefully and ensure peaceful coexistence while reminding Ghanaians of the importance of resorting to non-violent means to seek redress.
