The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Hon. Tia Kabiru Mahama, has condemned the frequent attacks on passengers and travelers along the Bawku-Bolga-Walewale highways, which stem from the ongoing Bawku Chieftaincy dispute between the Mamprusis and Kussasis.
Speaking to the media, Hon. Mahama emphasized that the violence is not limited to Bawku and Walewale but also affects other areas, including Zebilla, Garu, and Binduri. He described the situation as devastating, stressing that security is vital and the safety and well-being of every Ghanaian must be a priority. He urged the government to take swift and decisive action to curb these attacks and restore peace in the affected communities.
Hon. Mahama underscored the importance of addressing the root causes of the conflict as a foundation for lasting peace. He called for a comprehensive approach that combines conflict resolution with other necessary measures to stabilize the region.
He also highlighted the role of the Executive branch of government, which is tasked with ensuring national security. According to him, the government has the authority and responsibility to implement drastic measures to contain the situation in Bawku, Walewale, and other conflict-prone areas.
Reflecting on his role as a legislator, Hon. Mahama reaffirmed the promises he made during his campaign. He expressed gratitude to his constituents for entrusting him with the responsibility of representing them in Parliament. He pledged to continue serving with humility, unity, and dedication, using effective lobbying to address their challenges.
Dr. Mahama also expressed appreciation to his Minority colleagues for recognizing his capabilities and appointing him to the Parliamentary Vetting Committee, where he participated in vetting ministerial nominees under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
Finally, he reiterated his commitment to youth and women empowerment, highlighting plans to create job opportunities and provide skills training. He expressed hope that these initiatives would enable the people of Walewale to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives.
