Dear President Elect Mahama,
RETAIN DR. DAMPARE AS IGP FOR STABILITY AND CONTINUITY.
As you prepare to assume the highest office in the land, I want to bring to your attention a matter of great importance regarding the leadership of the Ghana Police Service. The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has been subject to baseless accusations and rumors of removal. I strongly believe that Dr. Dampare's exceptional leadership and commitment to transforming the Police Service make him an invaluable asset to your administration.
Dr. Dampare's non-partisan and professional approach has earned him widespread respect and acclaim. Under his leadership, the Police Service has begun to shed its old image, and a new sense of professionalism and accountability is emerging. His efforts to transform the institution and serve the Ghanaian public have not gone unnoticed.
However, as with any effective leader, Dr. Dampare has faced opposition and criticism from some quarters. Professor Kwesi Aning, a renowned security analyst, has noted that the IGP's detractors will criticize him regardless of his actions. It is essential to recognize that not everyone will appreciate Dr. Dampare's leadership style or the changes he is implementing.
In spite of this, I firmly believe that Dr. Dampare's retention as IGP is crucial for the continued transformation of the Police Service. His leadership has brought a sense of stability and professionalism to the institution, and his removal would be a significant setback. As Professor Aning aptly put it, "If he goes, it's not the IGP as an individual who loses, it's the Republic of Ghana and our security governance."
Mr. President Elect, as you begin your term in office, I urge you to consider the importance of maintaining continuity and stability in our institutions. Dr. George Akuffo Dampare's leadership has been a beacon of hope for a better Police Service, and I firmly believe that he deserves the opportunity to continue his good work.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Evans Mawunyo Tsikata
