Avoid actions that may compromise Ghana's peace, stability post-election — CODEO to stakeholders

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has called on stakeholders to uphold peace and stability as the nation navigates post-election challenges, particularly those stemming from the declaration of some parliamentary results.

In a statement released on December 24, CODEO urged political actors, the Electoral Commission (EC), security agencies, the judiciary, and civil society organizations to adhere to constitutional processes and resolve disputes through legitimate channels.

“All stakeholders must uphold the rule of law, resolve disputes through legitimate channels, and avoid actions that may compromise the country’s peace and stability,” said Mr. Albert Arhin, National Coordinator of CODEO.

CODEO’s statement comes amid heightened tensions following disagreements over the outcome of certain parliamentary elections.

The Coalition has launched a nationwide post-election observation initiative, deploying 20 trained citizen observers to monitor the conduct of key stakeholders and ensure transparency.

The observers, deployed from December 22, 2024, to January 23, 2025, will pay close attention to electoral disputes, the conduct of political actors, and adherence to constitutional procedures as the country prepares for the swearing-in of the President-elect on January 7, 2025.

Mr. Arhin reassured the public of CODEO’s commitment to fostering credible and transparent elections, adding, “This observation effort aims to ensure that the electoral space remains conducive for peace, stability, and national unity.”
