The Dean of the UPSA Law School, Professor Ernest Kofi Abotsi has waded into the delayed release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to him, the delay highlights a bigger crisis in the country's educational sector.
In a post on X, Prof. Abotsi expressed concern over the systemic issues plaguing the education sector, citing low teacher morale, inadequate investment, facility deficits, and politicisation as critical factors.
He warned that these issues have pushed the sector to a precarious state that demands urgent attention.
“The delayed release of WASSCE results is symptomatic of deeper crises in the educational sector. Low morale of teachers, politicization, underinvestment & deficit in facility, etc., reflect a system that has been toyed with, & we may be on a dangerous precipice,” Prof. Kofi Abotsi wrote.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on December 9 explained the delay of the release of the 2024 WASSCE results, attributing it to a malfunction in scanners used for processing objective test answer sheets.
In a statement dated, WAEC further revealed that an outstanding GH₵118 million debt owed by the Ministry of Education has exacerbated the issue.
The council emphasised the urgent need for funds to address these operational challenges.
The delay in releasing results has raised concerns among students, parents, and educators, adding to the growing discourse on the need for systemic reforms in Ghana's education sector.

So Prof. Go and release the results for the Council. it is usually symptomatic of how many Ghanaians behave. They know how to talk but they offer no solutions to the issues they raise.
