Lawyers for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Fanteakwa North are urging the Clerk of Parliament to familiarise himself with the country's laws and stop being used by the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) to facilitate illegal actions.
The legal team, which has filed a judicial review application at the High Court in Koforidua to annul the EC's redeclaration of the Fanteakwa North Parliamentary election results in Tesano on December 12, is calling on the Clerk of Parliament to disregard any documents bearing names other than that of Haruna Appau Wiredu as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa North, as declared by the EC's Returning Officer for the constituency.
Counsel for Haruna Appau Wiredu, Isaac Mintah Larbi, cautioned the Clerk of Parliament against allowing an individual, whom he claims was unlawfully declared winner, to enter Ghana's legislature.
“Now on this note, I am drawing the Clerk of Parliament’s attention to all that has gone on and for him to advise himself of what is going on and ensure that he himself is compliant with the laws of this country because what the Electoral Commission has done so far is to engage themselves in an illegality.
“And the Clerk of Parliament cannot also continue the illegality that the Electoral Commission is perpetrating on the people of Ghana, especially the people of Fanteakwa North in the Eastern region.
“So, the Clerk of Parliament, if at any time you receive any document bearing any other name than that of Haruna Appau Wiredu, who is the MP-elect of Fanteakwa North, we are humbly asking you to ignore him.”
