FRI, 13 DEC 2024

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Gushegu Constituency says is not accepting the re results of the recent parliamentary elections in the constituency, making the incumbent MP, Hassan Tampuli the winner.

In a press release copied to media houses and signed by the NDC parliamentary candidate, Mohammed Yussif Malimali, the party said even though the elections appeared peaceful without any recorded incidence of violence, "however, the entire process within the Gushegu Constituency wasn't peaceful, courtesy the needless machinations of our brothers from the NPP and their candidate to ensure the rules are compromised, just so that they can have their way."

"Myriads of electoral infractions recorded in this constituency, there are serious questions that need to be addressed regarding the specific concerns of; over-voting in about 30 polling stations within NPP strong holds, NPP sympathizers masquerading as CODEO officers in their bid to dictate to the electorates who were already in queues to vote for the NPP, intimidation of electorates in supposed NDC strong holds, a situation that laid credence to the alleged threats by the NPP that they have the capacity to unleash violence in the constituency as and when they deem it needful", Mr. Malimali added.

Below is the full statement:
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, the Regional and District officers of our party the great NDC, the good people of Gushegu Constituency you are most welcome to this engagement.

With utmost humility and love for the people of this constituency, permit me to express my deepest gratitude to you the constituents and all our electoral stakeholders for the support you have shown me and my party the NDC, also for the peaceful elections we had on 7th December.

Even though the elections appeared peaceful without any recorded incidence of violence however, the entire process within the Gushegu Constituency wasn't peaceful, courtesy the needless machinations of our brothers from the NPP and their candidate to ensure the rules are compromised, just so that they can have their way.

Ladies and gentlemen, following the myriads of electoral infractions recorded in this constituency, there are serious questions that need to be addressed regarding the specific concerns of; over -voting in about 30 polling stations within NPP strong holds, NPP sympathizers masquerading as CODEO officers in their bid to dictate to the electorates who were already in queues to vote for the NPP, intimidation of electorates in supposed NDC strong holds, a situation that laid credence to the alleged threats by the NPP that they have the capacity to unleash violence in the constituency as and when they deem it needful.

In the light of these demonstrable infractions, we are convinced that the outcome of the elections does not reflect the will of the people of Gushegu Constituency. We are committed to ensuring seamless electoral process anchored on fairness to all candidates, and we shall deploy every available tool or resource within the ambit of the law to wright these wrongs. My commitment to a peaceful and credible electoral system and upholding democratic principles in general as the vehicle for socio economic empowerment of the people of Gushegu constituency has never been in doubt, not even to my political opponents. However, we owe it to our supporters, the Chiefs, elders and people of this constituency and also to the integrity of the system to pursue a full investigation into these matters before accepting the final result.

I am however calling on our supporters to remain calm and resolute as we seek to bring amicable solutions to these challenges.

GOD BLESS U
