WASSCE results delayed as gov’t owes WAEC GHS118 million

The release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results has been delayed due to the Ghanaian government’s indebtedness to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

According to a press release issued by WAEC, the government owes the Council a staggering GHS118,000,000, which has hindered the completion of essential post-examination processes.

The delay stems from the breakdown of scanners needed for processing objective cards, an issue WAEC attributes to the lack of funds.

The scanning process, originally scheduled for November 1 to November 30, 2024, has been stalled as the Council awaits financial support from the Ministry of Education to repair the equipment.

“Scanning of the objective cards, which was scheduled for November 1 to November 30, 2024, is yet to be completed due to the breakdown of scanners used for the process. The Council is awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GHS118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education for the repair of the scanners to enable the scanning process and other post-examination processes to continue smoothly,” the statement read.

WAEC has also appealed to examination officials and suppliers for patience, assuring them that payments for their services will be made once funds are received.

Meanwhile, the Council has urged the public to disregard dates circulating on social media regarding the release of the WASSCE results. WAEC has assured stakeholders that the results will be released promptly once the challenges with post-examination activities are resolved.
