The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has urged the public to remain patient and allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to formally declare the results of Ghana’s December 7, 2024 general elections.

This appeal comes amid growing tensions and a request from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for transparency in the process.

In a preliminary post-election briefing on Sunday, December 8, CODEO emphasized the importance of trusting the constitutional process, noting that the EC's management of ballot counting and polling station setup was largely credible.

CODEO's findings revealed that 99% of political party agents and all presiding officers at polling stations signed the parliamentary results declaration forms, underscoring the reliability of the process.

The coalition also confirmed receiving comprehensive results from its nationwide representative sample of 1,500 polling stations across all regions and constituencies, providing further validation of the election’s transparency.

The organization called for calm and encouraged Ghanaians to uphold the country's democratic values while awaiting the official announcement of results by the EC.

“The arrangement by the Electoral Commission, from setup to the counting of ballots at polling stations, was generally adequate and credible,” CODEO stated in its briefing.

The group emphasized that the Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT), which includes data from these polling stations, would provide an impartial verification of the EC's official results once they are declared.

“As of midnight of December 7, CODEO have received results from all PVT national representatives samples of polling stations that is 1, 500 located in every region and constituency of Ghana.

“CODEO will release its PVT estimate after the EC performs its constitutional duty of announcing the official results of the presidential election. The PVT will provide an impartial verification of the officials’ presidential results announced by the EC”.

“We commend the EC, the security taskforce, the media, political parties, and particularly the Ghanaian public for their peaceful participation,” said CODEO. “We also acknowledge the early concession by the NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
