Gladstone K. Agboada, the Returning officer for Ayawaso Central, has officially declared Mr Abdul Rauf Tubazu of the National Democratic Congress as the winner of the parliamentary election.
He polled 29,755 votes, representing 55.6 percent, while Mr Henry Quartey got 23,345 votes, representing 43.6 per cent.
The independent candidate, Mr Charles Kwame Adams, got 163 votes, representing 0.39 per cent.
The total votes cast was 53,559, while the rejected ballots were 287.
For the presidential elections, the two main contenders – Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama got 21,294 votes, representing 39.68 per cent, and 31,097, representing 57.94 per cent respectively.
Total votes cast is 53671, with rejected ballots of 464.
Mr Tubazu in an interview, expressed joy about the win, saying, “It is a dream come true.”
“I have always believed and been confident that I will win, and this was possible through hard work and the support of my team,” he said.
He thanked the constituent for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work assiduously to ensure that their challenges were addressed.
The Ayawaso Central has a total of 88,312 registered voters with 193 polling stations.
