National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy Director of Elections, Mahdi Gibrill, has raised concerns about the genuineness of peace advocates in the lead-up to the 2024 general election, suggesting that some see peace advocacy as a business venture rather than a genuine effort.
Speaking on NEAT FM’s ‘Ghana Montie’, Gibrill expressed that certain irregularities by the Electoral Commission (EC) threaten to spark election-related tension if not addressed.
Gibrill highlighted issues with ballot paper printing, alleging that flaws in the process could facilitate election tampering.
“The ballot papers they [EC] are printing can be used to rig the election. Did we pay them to print faulty ballot papers?” he questioned, urging the EC to act swiftly to ensure credibility.
He cautioned that, despite widespread calls for peace, these appeals may be superficial if real issues remain unaddressed.
"People are out there preaching, ‘We want peace, we want peace,’ but it’s a business for them; they don’t mean it,” he remarked.
