UDS set to reopen 2024/2025 Academic Year on October 18

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has officially announced that the 2024/2025 academic year will commence on Friday, October 18, following an earlier indefinite postponement.

In a circular issued on Monday, October 14, the university’s management confirmed that all fresh and continuing students are expected to resume their academic activities from the new reopening date.

The announcement comes after the university had previously postponed the start of the academic year due to industrial action.

The initial reopening, scheduled for September 27, was delayed owing to a strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), Senior Staff Association - Universities of Ghana (SSA-UG), and Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC), which disrupted essential academic services.

“The reopening date for the 2024/2025 Academic Year, which was postponed indefinitely, is now slated for Friday, October 18, 2024,” the circular read, providing the much-anticipated update.

Students are advised to complete their course registration online and verify it at their respective faculties and departments between October 18 and November 1, 2024.

“Students should kindly take note and comply accordingly,” the Registrar added.

In its earlier communication on September 25, 2024, UDS had expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the strike and assured students and stakeholders that they would be updated once the situation was resolved.

“This is due to the ongoing industrial action by GAUA, SSA-UG, and TEWU-TUC, which has affected academic services delivery in the University,” the university had explained at the time.
