Nana Nteboa Pra IV, the Divisional Chief of Prestea-Himan Traditional Area in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region, has praised Justice Maxwell Acquah, General Manager of Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, a fully owned Ghanaian gold mining company , for being a visionary leader .
Nana Nteboa made the plea when the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia paid a visit to the area during his recent four -day campaign tour to the Western Region.
"He has the company at heart and has brought tremendous change to the company and the community at large...
“Unfortunately, Sankofa cannot boast of any land/concession to mine. If they should start to mine, it would boost the local economy, enhance royalty, create job opportunity for the youth, contribute to revenue, infrastructure development, and technological advancement, among others” he said.
The Prestea - Himan Divisional Chief advanced to make a direct appeal to the NPP flagbearer who is also the sitting Vice President.
“I am pleading with government, to grant the company concessions of land to mine for development to thrive in this area” , he emphasised.
He pointed out that if this move is carried out the town will see a great transformation that will positively impact various SMEs and ultimately improve the Internally Generated Fund of the assembly .
In endorsing the call from the Divisional Chief of Prestea-Himan, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia singled out the Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited Managing Director for praise.
“We have heard good testimonies about him and how he’s been instrumental in development of the mine and Prestea township.
We will give him (Basty ) all the necessary support to develop the mine. In fact, it is in our supreme interest of the state to support Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited to obtain its own concession”, the Vice President added.
In response to the Vice President's commitment on Radio 360's morning show in Takoradi, the Managing Director of Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited Mr. Justice Maxwell Acquah expressed confidence that, the pledge will be fulfilled.
"Nana's call is in the right direction, most mining companies have folded up leaving only Sankofa Gold Mining Company..we employ over 300 direct staff and for over 100 years all the Company has to work with are the tailings of large scale mining companies".
"We have sunk over 3million dollars in 2012 into gold exploration that ended us up with nothing and most of the concessions are with FGR company which has folded up so if we are considered by government like Nana said, with some of those concessions and with a little boost in expertise, we can achieve the ultimate. I am optimistic the pledge by the Vice President will be fulfilled " ; he emphasised.
