President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to eliminating security threats facing Nigeria, especially the Boko Haram insurgency in the country's Northeast.

In his Independence Day speech on Tuesday, October 1, Tinubu provided an update on the government's progress against insecurity and further outlined his target for the security forces.

"My target is to eliminate all the threats of Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and the scourge of all forms of violent extremism," the President stated.

Tinubu explained that within the last year, over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders have been neutralized by the military across trouble spots in the Northeast, Northwest and other regions.

Peace has reportedly returned to hundreds of previously volatile communities, allowing displaced persons to return home.

However, the President stressed that the task remains incomplete.

"As soon as we can restore peace to many communities in the troubled parts of the North, our farmers can return to their farms," he said.

The Nigerian leader promised not to waver in the battle against the insurgents and criminal gangs.

Under Tinubu's direction, the security agencies intend to eliminate all remnants of the Boko Haram threat.
