Some invigilators who oversaw Ghana's West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) this year undermined the integrity of the national tests by projecting exam answers for students to copy, according to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
In its report on the conclusion of the 2024 WASSCE, WAEC highlighted several infractions committed by invigilators and supervisors, including "writing answers on boards for the candidates to copy" and "use of projectors to display answers on the board for candidates to copy."
The report released on Thursday, September 26 and signed by John K. Kapi, Head of WAEC's Public Affairs unit, deplored such behaviour.
"During the monitoring of the examination, the Council's inspectors observed a number of infractions on the part of some Supervisors, Invigilators and candidates.
“Some of the infractions recorded include: writing answers on boards for the candidates to copy; use of projectors to display answers on the board for candidates to copy,” noted the examination council.
WAEC has said it will sanction those found culpable and reiterated its commitment to credibility despite challenges to the process.
This year’s examination which started on Monday, August 5, had a total of 460,611 candidates made up of 212,954 males and 247,657 females, presented by 1,003 participating schools.
The examination was administrated at 1,000 centres across the country.
