Dr. Arnold Mashud, the Northern Regional Elections Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated the party's ongoing protest against the current Electoral Commission's voter register.
He claims that the register has been compromised by illegal transfers and missing names, which has prompted the NDC's demand for a forensic audit to ensure a credible register ahead of the general elections.
Dr. Mashud pointed to instances where voters were reportedly transferred from their original polling stations to other areas without explanation. He highlighted irregularities detected by the party in constituencies such as Savelugu, Tolon, Tamale South, Nanton, and Sagnarigu. The NDC, he said, will continue to push for an audit, underscoring their commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.
During the party's "Enough Is Enough Demonstration" in Tamale, Dr. Mashud spoke to journalists, urging civil society groups and Ghanaians to join the call for free and fair elections. He stressed the importance of protecting Ghana's democracy by resisting any form of electoral illegality.
Addressing the demonstrators, the Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Adolf, called on the Electoral Commission to meet the party's demands. He expressed concern over the Commission's seemingly entrenched position, stressing that the NDC would not relent until a credible voter register is established.
