The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has disclosed that the voters' register in his constituency has been bloated with about 5,000 names.
Speaking to thousands of protestors who showed up in the nationwide NDC ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration in Accra, the Minority Leader stressed that this is very worrying and must be addressed by the Electoral Commission (EC).
“In my own constituency, we’ve uncovered the addition of about 3,000 names in the transfer register and several instances of multiple names. In total, the register has been bloated by roughly 5,000 names. This raises serious concerns, and we need Parliament to intervene,” Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said.
In his address to the protestors, the Minority Leader indicated that the NDC will continue to push until the EC agrees to an audit of the voter register for the 2024 general election.
He said a clean register will make the December 7 polls fair and credible to ensure the process is peaceful.
“We believe that the voter’s register must be audited. The level of tampering we’ve observed so far makes it impossible to proceed without a proper review. This audit will help us understand the extent of the issue and fix the system,” Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said.
At the end of the NDC’s nationwide ‘Enough Is Enough’ demonstration, a petition has been submitted to the Electoral Commission calling for an independent forensic audit of the voters' register.
