The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of failing to deliver on its promises and making misleading claims about its achievements.
Speaking at a press conference dubbed "2024 Manifesto Sectoral Press Briefing," Hon. Kwame Abgodza, Member of Parliament for Adaklu Constituency, pointed out that the NPP government has never started nor completed any airport project talkless of a single district hospital, despite promising to build 120-bed district hospitals for $3.5 million each.
Hon. Agbodza touted the NDC's legacy in infrastructure development, citing projects such as the Kotoka International Airport Terminal 3, interchanges, schools, and hospitals. He emphasized that these projects have transformed lives and generated revenue for the country.
In contrast, Hon. Agbodza slammed the NPP's record, stating that they have failed to start and complete any new infrastructure projects in eight years. He mentioned that the NPP has only renamed existing universities and polytechnics, and has not built any new district hospitals.
He also criticized the NPP's prioritization of projects, citing the example of the Bank of Ghana building, which he said was more important to the NPP than healthcare.
The MP also highlighted the NPP government's failure to connect communities to electricity and water despite the NDC's efforts to expand coverage.
"The electricity coverage in our country has reduced, and water coverage has reduced because the population is increasing, and they are not adding capacity," he said.
The NDC also criticized the NPP government's handling of the economy, citing unpaid bills of almost ₵15 billion to Ghanaian road contractors and a collapsed economy with abandoned construction projects.
The MP also outlined a massive 10 billion Ghana dollar infrastructure development plan, dubbed the "Big Push" policy, aimed at transforming the country's economy and creating jobs.
The plan, which is part of the NDC's 24-hour economy policy, focuses on delivering efficient and effective infrastructure across the country, prioritizing the completion of abandoned government projects, and revamping the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund.
Hon. Kwame Abgodza concluded that a vote for President John Mahama and all NDC parliamentary candidates in the December 7 general elections is a vote for resetting and transforming Ghana to the benefit of the citizenry.
