In an attempt by former President John Mahama to ridicule the humble Vice President Bawumia, he recently made a claim that "I was never a driver's mate to late Prof Mills, I was co-driver". A co-driver indeed!
You all remember Dr. Bawumia in February this year, made a point that he was a driver's mate (Vice President) to the main driver (The President), which was misconstrued as though he was dodging responsibility. Dr. Bawumia always states that, despite he being a driver's mate, he has contributed his quota to this government with thirty-three (33) self-initiated policies. It means that if and when given the mandate by the good people of Ghana, he can do more good things for Ghana. Mr. John Mahama, riding on propaganda that Dr. Bawumia says he is a driver's mate, recently told Ghanaians that he was a co-driver. But is this statement true?
The answer is with Mr. John Mahama's former political aide, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor. He indicated as a political aide to the then Vice President Mahama that "The President is allowing the media aspect and the social interaction for the Vice President whiles he concentrates on the real core issue of governance and economic issue. So, you don't normally see the President attending these social functions. And I think is good. The President is concentrating more on actual hard core facts. Let me deal with the economy. Let me fix with the economy. Let me deal with the real issue. Invitations and other things, let me get my Vice President to do that".
The above hard core evidence is enough for Ghanaians to know that former President Mahama was not even near a driver's mate neither to talk of being a co-driver. The abovementioned statements made by his then political aide are simply telling Ghanaians who Mr. John Mahama was as a Vice President. He was just a social gatherings attendee without any contributions to the government of the late Prof. Mills. The hard core economy was managed by President Mills whiles the social functions and media engagements were delegated to Mr. John Mahama.
Do you now wonder why he destroyed the good foundation built upon by the late Prof Mills as started by President Kufuor? He was not learning from his boss, hence, the reason he 'chopped' all the flesh of the economy and it was left with bones (according to Mr. John Mahama as a President). It is not surprising that he inherited year-on-year inflation of 11.1%, GDP growth of 9.3 and Debt to GDP of 48.4% and ended up destroying his boss's records with inflation of 15.4%, GDP growth of 3.4% and Debt to GDP of 73.3%, even without any pandemic.
It will be very difficult with this bad management of the good economy inherited from Prof Mills for Mr. John Mahama to convince Ghanaians that he was a co-driver.
Moreso, is it possible for a co-driver to set up a committee to investigate a co-driver? It is public knowledge, as was stated by the respected Hon. Martin Alamisi Amidu that Prof Mills set up a committee to investigate the then Vice President Mahama. So, how can a co-driver investigate a co-driver? I am just asking to satisfy my curiosity.
It is not hidden to anyone in Ghana of the persistent demand for Mr. Mahama by Dr. Bawumia to tell Ghanaians one single policy he brought onboard or initiated as a Vice President of Ghana to help the late Prof Mills. Mr. Mahama is unable to tell Ghanaians. And you believe him, telling you that he was a co-driver? A co-driver without an impact? You believe him at your own peril. Even the driver's mate is able to point out his contributions to the government of his boss.
In conclusion, it is fair to say that Mr. John Mahama was not even a driver's mate but was reduced to social gatherings attendee as a Vice President to the late Prof Mills. He was not where near a co-driver, I must emphasize.
