The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to launch a ‘Digital Jobs Initiative’ that will create at least 300,000 skilled jobs in technology for Ghanaian youth.
This was announced as part of the opposition party’s youth manifesto, which contained proposals on accelerating Ghana’s digital economy.
Under the initiative, the NDC says it will train one million youth in digital and coding skills through the ‘One Million Coders Program’.
The program aims to equip youth with in-demand skills for business process and knowledge process outsourcing.
Launched at the UPSA auditorium in Accra on Monday, August 12, the document reads in part, "We will train One Million (1,000,000) Youth Coders in in-demand supply digital skills for the growing Business Process outsourcing (BPO) and Knowledge Process outsourcing (KPO) ecosystems, ensuring no one is left behind in the digital revolution."
The party added that it “will launch a 'Digital Jobs Initiative to create at least 300,000 skilled employment opportunities for the youth.”
The Digital Jobs Initiative is targeting youth unemployment, which currently stands at an estimated 14.7% in Ghana.
