Ho Central Prisons receive mechanized borehole, medicines from Afadzato South MP

Hon. Angela Alorwu-Tay, Member of Parliament for Afadzato South, has commissioned a new borehole and donated medicines to the infirmary at Ho Central Prisons.

She has been a consistent supporter of the prison, previously commissioning both a borehole and a laboratory for the facility.

During a visit to the prison, Hon. Alorwu-Tay noticed the need for an infirmary and decided to raise funds for the necessary equipment instead of celebrating her 50th birthday. She chose to commemorate the occasion with the inmates in 2021.

The Volta Regional Commander of Prisons, DDP Raphael Kwesi Tuekpe, expressed gratitude for Hon. Alorwu-Tay's support. He highlighted her contributions, including the construction of a borehole and the provision of medicines. He noted that the prison had faced challenges with water supply due to issues with the water company, but Hon. Alorwu-Tay's intervention ensured a steady flow of water and improved hygiene in the laboratory.

DDP Tuekpe also emphasized the importance of the new laboratory, which was created by converting an old structure. He explained that inmates often had difficulty accessing medical services at hospitals, so the new facility would significantly benefit the community, prison officers, and inmates alike.

While acknowledging government efforts in providing logistics, DDP Tuekpe appealed for additional support from individuals, NGOs, and institutions to address ongoing challenges faced by the prison. He stressed the importance of making the prison a comfortable place, as anyone could potentially find themselves there at any time.
