Bolgatanga: Man found dead by roadside in Sumbrungu as police investigate

Police have commenced investigations into the death of a young man whose body was found by the roadside at Sumbrungu in the Anaten Kulbia Electoral Area of the Upper East Region.

The deceased has been identified as Azoya Anoryira, a farmer from the community. The Assembly Member for the area, Richard Akanpie Akumdaare, estimated his age to be between 20 and 30 years.

According to Mr Akumdaare, he was informed at about 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday that a body had been discovered lying by the roadside between some stores in the area.

He said he proceeded to the scene to verify the report and, after confirming the discovery, contacted the Ghana Police Service.

The police subsequently arrived at the scene and conveyed the body to the mortuary, he said.

The Assembly Member explained that the body was found close to a drinking spot, but it remained unclear whether the deceased died at the location or was brought there from another place.

The cause and circumstances of the death have not yet been established, with police investigations ongoing.

Mr Akumdaare described the incident as unusual, saying it was the first such occurrence he could recall in the electoral area.

He added that the deceased's family and community leaders were engaging the police regarding arrangements for the release of the body for burial.

The Assembly Member expressed condolences to the bereaved family and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious or unfamiliar activities to community leaders or the appropriate authorities.

He also advised residents to take precautions to protect themselves, particularly at night, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
