The government has successfully constructed over 40 hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide, according to a comprehensive report by Dr. Nsiah Asare, the President's health advisor.
The President has completed 16 projects which he inherited. Nine (9) Eurojet hospitals from President Kufuor and seven (7) other hospitals.
Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the government's advisor on health, emphasized ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation's healthcare system. He noted that beyond constructing new medical facilities, including those under the Agenda 111 initiative, the government is also expanding infrastructure and providing specialized training for medical staff. This dual approach aims to improve healthcare accessibility and quality across regional and district hospitals.
He announced the upcoming inauguration of 18 new district hospitals and stated that many of the Agenda 111 projects would soon be completed and operational. These initiatives are part of the government's commitment to providing affordable, high-quality healthcare to all Ghanaians.
"We are confident that we may be able to finish about 50 plus of them this year. What is left for us to do is the finishing touches on some of them. As I am speaking today, equipment procurement evaluation is ongoing. So far, so good," Dr. Nsiah Asare remarked.
He highlighted the completion of the Fomena and Kumawu Hospitals as evidence of the administration's dedication to delivering state-of-the-art medical facilities that adhere to the latest national healthcare standards. Upcoming hospital projects include facilities in Elubo, Mpohor, Bogoso, Nsuaem, and Wassa Akropong, along with a public health facility at Akontonbra and the Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sewua.
"By the end of 2024, we will also complete several significant projects, including the Urology and Nephrology Centre of Excellence at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital," Dr. Nsiah Asare stated.
He also mentioned the ongoing construction of 11 district hospitals and one polyclinic in the Ashanti, Eastern, Greater Accra, and Ahafo Regions, as well as various treatment and holding centers. These efforts align with the government's commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage and ensuring improved and more efficient health services for all Ghanaians.
Dr. Nsiah Asare emphasized the importance of the Agenda 111 initiative, which aims to provide 111 standard 100-bed district hospitals and accommodations for doctors and nurses. He assured Ghanaians that the trust placed in the government would not be in vain, highlighting substantial investments in the health sector to complete as many infrastructural projects as possible for the benefit of all.
He concluded by calling for continued support for the government's efforts to provide quality healthcare services to the people of Ghana.
