President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended the tenure of Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu as Auditor-General of Ghana by two years.

In a statement dated June 19, and issued by the Deputy Auditor-General (DAG) Ali Mohammed Zakaria on behalf of the Auditor-General, the president's decision to extend Mr. Asiedu's tenure was announced to staff of the Ghana Audit Service.

"I wish to bring to the information of all staff that His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, has extended the tenure of the office of the Auditor-General, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu for the next two years," the statement said.

Mr. Asiedu, who has held the position of Auditor-General since 2021, was due for statutory retirement on August 1, 2024.

However, the extension granted by the president means he will continue in his role for an additional two years.

The statement from the DAG expressed congratulations to Mr. Asiedu on behalf of the Audit Service.

“The Service extends its congratulations to our Auditor-General on the extension of his appointment," it said.

As the country's top auditor, Mr. Asiedu is responsible for overseeing the auditing of public accounts and ensuring the proper application of public funds.
